Farmhouse Entryway

When we moved in to this house, we loved that there were a few coat racks by the front door. But we quickly realized that we would rarely use that entryway because we have the garage. When you enter through the garage, you come in to the basement. Our basement is one of my favorite rooms in the house, especially with the fireplace in the these winter months. It also has a ton of great space by the entryway from the garage. I knew that I wanted a bench of some sort, but never imagined my husband, Mike, would find such a great bench!!

He found this gem on Craigslist and it was really local!! I immediately told him to grab it!  A couple was cleaning out their home and said it belonged to their grandmother but they couldn’t use it. It is weathered and worn…but that is part of the reason I love it. We decided we would use it to make a great entryway area for the kids to drop their backpacks and to hang our coats. We happened to have a great area rug that was left by the previous homeowners, (super generous people) that fit the space perfectly.

What came next, was Mike’s idea… We created a shelf and coat hanger out of wood and brackets that we had left from our previous shelf projects. We purchased these great hooks and knobs at Home Depot and created another DIY decorative and useful piece in our new home for under $35!!

I absolutely love how this area turned out!! We come home from a long day and just hang our stuff up before heading upstairs to start our evening routine with the kids!
